A letter from the Executive Director

Dear clients, community partners, and supporters:

Due to cuts in federal and state grants, as well as a shortage in recent fundraising goals, the Sexual Assault Recovery & Prevention Center of San Luis Obispo County will be implementing furloughs two days per month effective immediately.

The agency will be closed for business the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month, effective January 23, 2012 and continuing through June 25, 2012. During this time, the SARP Center’s 24-hour crisis line for survivors and loved ones, and 24-hour accompaniment services for survivors to medical exams, law enforcement interviews, and court proceedings will remain intact. However, other services, such as education presentations and counseling, will not be scheduled for these days, and the office will not be open for walk-in business.

If you would like to request an advocate for survivor accompaniments on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month, you may call our 24-hour crisis line at 805-545-8888, press 1, and be connected to an on-call advocate who will assist you. Otherwise, if you have a routine business inquiry or would like to schedule counseling, please press 2 to leave a voicemail and a SARP Center staff member will return your message on the next business day.

We are taking all measures to ensure the continuity of our 24-hour crisis services, and we thank you for your assistance and patience during this difficult time. We regret the circumstances that compel us to take such drastic measures. If you have questions about the SARP Center’s closures on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month through June 25, 2012, please contact the SARP Center’s Executive Director, Kristy McCray, at 805-545-8888 or ed@sarpcenter.org.

The Sexual Assault Recovery and Prevention Center of San Luis Obispo County is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, established in 1976.  For the past 35 years we have provided a safe and caring atmosphere in which survivors of sexual assault can begin to heal.  The SARP Center Crisis Line is available 24 hours a day to offer confidential support to survivors and their loved ones.

Through our crisis services and prevention education departments, we work to make San Luis Obispo County a safer place for all its residents, raising awareness and fighting to end sexual violence.
