Volunteer Crisis Counselors


Advocacy/Accompaniment
Accompanying a survivor to law enforcement interviews, forensic medical exams and court proceedings acting as an advocate and a support person.

Peer Counseling
Providing information and support to survivors and significant others of survivors in person as a specially trained sexual assault peer counselor.

Telephone Hotline
Providing information and support to callers twenty four hours a day on our crisis hotline.

Education/Prevention
Assisting our education team with education and prevention in the classroom as well as with Women's Empowerment and Self-defense instruction.

Administrative
Volunteer opportunities for clerical work are abundant and include data input, assisting with general mailings, and assembling packets.

Special Events
We sponsor events such as Walk-a-Mile in Her Shoes: A Men's March to Stop Rape, An Evening with an Artist, and SARP Night at the Movies. These events would not be possible without the dedication of our volunteers.

Community Information Tables
Volunteers staff prevention and education tables at community health fairs, farmer’s markets, and other events.

 

How to become a SARP Center Volunteer:

 

Stop by the office to pick up an application or call (805) 545-8888 to receive an application by mail.

Be interviewed for the position by the Crisis Services Coordinator and Executive Director.

You will be asked to interview after your applications are reviewed and accepted.

Complete the CA state certified, sexual assault crisis intervention counseling and advocacy training.

 

Volunteer Qualifications:

Volunteers must demonstrate stability and success in their personal and professional life

Be at least 18 years old

Be responsible, committed, compassionate and open-minded

Have no history of perpetration of abuse or violence

Must give consent for a criminal background check

Must be able to attend all training sessions and mandatory monthly In-Service Meetings

We also ask that survivors of sexual assault who would like to become volunteers be at least one year past their assault and have done the healing work necessary to be in a healthy emotional state.

July 21 - August 28
Mondays 5:30 - 10:00 pm
Wednesdays 5:30 - 10:00 pm
