Intern Expectations and Requirements
This is a two quarter or semester long internship; approximately a 6 mo. commitment.
The first six weeks of the internship are a 48 hour, state certified, sexual assault crisis counselor and advocate training class. After which time, upon staff approval, the intern is eligible to participate on our crisis line by taking calls at home and in the office. However, only time spent providing direct service will be applied to the hour requirement. Additionally, the intern may act as an advocate during law enforcement interviews, court proceedings and forensic medical exams. However, it is not a requirement that an intern participates on the crisis line.
Interns are expected to be self-directed, motivated, and able to take the initiative to work independently.
Interns are expected to maintain open communication with staff and supervisors. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are a necessity. We work with a diverse client base and an open mind is also necessary.
Interns and volunteers are expected to respect strict confidentiality and follow the philosophy and protocols of the SARP Center.
Interns are required to attend staff meetings, in-service meetings and supervision sessions.
Interns are expected to fulfill the hourly requirement set by their school. Only hours spent providing direct service to clients or hours in the office will be applied towards this requirement. Crisis line shifts in themselves do not meet the requirement.
